Girls Like That

For our musical theatre module, we were tasked with creating a music piece or adapting a current play into a music piece. We chose Girls Like That by Evan Placey into a theatre in education piece mixed with musical theatre. As a part of our proposal I chose the costume designs for the play, we decided to stick to a small budget and keep to a Brechtian style as he was our chosen practitioner.

The majority of this play is set in a school so I decided to keep the base costume of a school shirt and leggings then the other pieces of costume can be easily put on and removed on stage so the actors break character, keeping to the Brechtian techniques and practises.

All the costumes are more sterotypes of different decades mentioned within the play, our target audience are 11-16 so we wanted to make each decade easily identifiable so the audiences focus is more on the facts of rising social media, rather than trying to work out when the characters are from.
